Linux
Say good-bye to xnest, VNC, and ssh -X - there is an alternative out there that is faster. What is it?

FreeNX.
I was getting tired of the problems I was having with OS X and it's outdated X11 (XFree86 - bleah). I was thinking about using Xorg, but didn't want to suffer the down time of recompiling (and praying that I didn't have problems). I knew about FreeNX, but hadn't really given it much of a thought (after I had a solution, right?).

Well, turns out I made a very bad mistake. FreeNX seems to be exactly what it touts itself to be. Perhaps the next version of VNC? I dunno. All I can say is that it works and took very little time to build and install the server on my Linux box. You can find FreeNX here .

The client for the Mac was free as well from NoMachine. You can also get a server from there, but they didn't have one for Gentoo.

All in all I have been VERY impressed by this code.
